Product Introduction:

Ampilox Kid Tablet is a pharmaceutical formulation containing a combination of two antibiotics: Ampicillin (125mg) and Dicloxacillin (125mg). These antibiotics belong to the penicillin class and are commonly used to treat bacterial infections in pediatric patients.

Ampilox Kid Tablet works best on an empty stomach, so try to give it to your child 30 minutes to 1 hour before they eat. However, give it with food if it upsets your child’s stomach. It is generally given three times a day. Stick to the dose, time, and way prescribed by the doctor as these depend on the severity of the infection, its type, and your child’s body weight and age. If your child vomits within 30 minutes of taking the medicine, repeat the dose when your child feels better. However, do not double the dose if it is the time for the next dose.

Ampilox Kid Tablet can cause some minor and temporary side effects such as nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, and mild skin rash. These side effects almost always go away on their own. But, in case these side effects persist or become bothersome for your child, report to the doctor without a delay.

Tell your child’s doctor if your child has had any previous episode of allergy, heart problem, blood disorder, birth defects, airway obstruction, lung anomaly, gastrointestinal problem, skin disorder, and kidney malfunction. Knowledge of your child’s medical history will help the dose make dose alterations and plan your child’s overall treatment.

Benefits:

  1. Dual Antibiotic Action: Ampicillin and Dicloxacillin work synergistically to combat bacterial infections caused by susceptible organisms.
  2. Effective Against Gram-Positive Bacteria: Dicloxacillin, in particular, is effective against certain types of bacteria, including Staphylococcus aureus.
  3. Broad-Spectrum Coverage: The combination provides coverage against a wide range of bacterial infections commonly seen in children, such as respiratory tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, and urinary tract infections.

Side Effects:

While generally well-tolerated, some children may experience side effects, including:

  1. Gastrointestinal Disturbances: Nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, or abdominal pain may occur.
  2. Allergic Reactions: Some children may develop allergic reactions such as rash, itching, swelling, or, rarely, severe allergic reactions like anaphylaxis.
  3. Superinfection: Prolonged use may lead to the growth of resistant bacteria or yeast infections.

Usage Guidelines:

  1. Dosage: The dosage is determined based on the child’s age, weight, and the severity of the infection. It’s crucial to follow the prescribed dosage regimen.
  2. Administration: The tablet may need to be crushed or broken and mixed with a small amount of food or liquid for children who have difficulty swallowing tablets whole.
  3. Timing: Administer the medication at evenly spaced intervals to maintain a constant level of the drug in the child’s body.
  4. Duration: Complete the full course of treatment as prescribed, even if the child’s symptoms improve before finishing the medication, unless instructed otherwise by a healthcare professional.

Drug Interactions:

  1. Probenecid: Concurrent use may increase the levels of Ampicillin in the child’s blood by reducing its excretion.
  2. Oral Contraceptives: Antibiotics like Ampicillin and Dicloxacillin may reduce the effectiveness of oral contraceptives, necessitating additional contraceptive methods during treatment.
  3. Warfarin: Concurrent use may increase the anticoagulant effect of Warfarin, requiring close monitoring of coagulation parameters.

It’s essential to inform the prescribing healthcare provider about all medications, supplements, or herbal products being taken by the child to avoid potential drug interactions.

Always consult a healthcare professional for personalized advice regarding the use of Ampilox Kid Tablet in children, especially in cases of special medical conditions or allergies.
